More Details About the Assessment

Why was the assessment developed? Traditionally, companies seeking to hire new staff or contractors rely on CVs and personal communication with colleagues in the industry to find the required personnel who may then be invited for interview. The problem with this is that it is very subjective and difficult to gauge the competency of these individuals. The 2015 oil price decline and the 2020 pandemic have exacerbated this with many highly experienced people leaving the industy and young, lesser experienced people trying to fill this void.

While the Geological Society of London has it's Chartership process, few operations geoscientists have felt the need to undergo it and it's associated costs.

The OGICA assessment has the following key features:

  • It is an objective test with categories covering the full range of operations geoscience skillsets.
  • It is readily available online, worldwide and is cost effective
  • Visual results in the form of a spider plot and bar chart are available immediately on completion of the assessment. These can be included in CVs.
  • A digital badge is also generated which can be downloaded and subsequently used in social media.
  • The results are completely confidential to the candidate taking the assessment.
  • The assessment can be customised so that companies can assess their own staff or contractors to a particular standard.

The assessment is not only a benchmark of skill levels (there is no pass or fail) but it highlights skill gaps which can be addressed by focussed training as part of career CPD or further experience.
